Child Care Benefit
Childcare Benefit is assistance to help with the cost of child care. Child Care Benefit can be claimed in different ways depending on the type of child care you use. It is not available through the tax system.
Child Care Benefit is a payment to help families who use:
* Registered child care , and/or
Care provided by nannies,grandparents,relatives or friends who are registered with the Family Assistance Office
* Approved child care
Care provided by a service provider that has been approved to receive Child Care Benefit Payments on behalf of eligible families. To find an approved provider in your area call the Childcare Access Hotline on 1800670305.

Your Nanny can become a registered carer by contacting the Family Assistance Office.
Child Care Tax Rebate
From 1 July 2008 The Australian Governments Child Care Tax Rebate payment to families is 50%, in order to help meet their out-of-pocket child care costs.
The childcare tax rebate is a payment for parents or guardians who are working, studying or training.
Families can now receive up to $7,500 a year for each child in approved care
The Child Care Tax Rebate will be paid quarterly or as an annual lump sum payment.

Superannuation for Nannies If your carer is employed for more than 30 hours per week in a child care or domestic capacity, it is compulsory as an employer to make superannuation payments on their behalf.
The current contribution rate is 9% of the carer’s gross salary. This contribution is calculated on top of the carer’s gross salary and is not part of it.

Taxation for Nannies You must register as a group employer if you employ a carer on a permanent or permanent part time basis.
Please contact The Australian Taxation Office on 132 866 and they will forward an application form to you and give you any other relevant information.
Domestic Workers Compensation Insurance Domestic Workers Compensation Insurance should be taken out when employing people to work in your home environment. You should check with the company who insures your home and contents. Most insurers will charge a small premium to add a domestic worker to your policy.
IN QUEENSLAND however, you will need to contact workcover queensland on 1300 362 128 or visit their website: www.workcoverqld.com.au in order to obtain Insurance policy details. The cover starts immediately (after making the phonecall) and rates start at $35 for a 2 year policy. FAN stresses that this price is a guideline only.
